Take, for instance, a stunning home in Kingston where an outdoor kitchen and dining area are just the tip of the iceberg in a tree-laden yard that also includes a raised-beam swimming hole and a custom arbor. Re-create the looks from interior designer Gina Baran’s most coveted projects with curated items from her Newbury boutique, Abode Shoppe. The brand’s recent refresh is all about delivering the firm’s aesthetic without having to pay the design fee that comes with it, Baran says. Shopping Abode’s offerings, such as organic cotton blankets from Turkey and handmade terra cotta bowls, just might be the easiest way to decorate. In what proved to be a banner year for local showroom openings, the debut of this luxury Italian brand’s first-ever Boston store has us truly buzzing. Located on Stuart Street, the space stuns with towering floor-to-ceiling windows and a sleek, double-sided fireplace designed just for this location.

Want to take the plunge into pool ownership? Enlist the experts at this Chelmsford-based firm. The company has showed off its meticulous building skills on some of the splashiest custom swimming holes around, incorporating luxe adds-on such as waterfalls and built-in spas with equal aplomb. Plus, with a handy roster of maintenance services covering equipment upgrades, safety-cover installation, and more, the team makes sure the hardest part of managing your new summertime retreat is convincing the kids to climb out of it at the end of the day. There’s lots to love about a Patrick Planeta project, but what strikes us the most is the interior designer’s unwavering ability to infuse warmth into his sophisticated schemes.

There’s a reason Stanhope has been the framer of choice for local artists since 1972. The team’s gorgeous frames—many of which are hand-crafted in Union Square—are works of art in their own right, deftly suiting anything from paintings to lithographs to maps with options including art nouveau gold leaf and welded aluminum. Need someone to hang your new treasures?

Her work in the studio ranges from schematic hand drawing and rendering, to developing construction documents from project onset through completion. Before becoming a member of the DGLA team, Jordan earned a Bachelor of Architecture from The Pennsylvania State University, supplementing her studies with a semester abroad based in Rome. Although she practiced architecture in school, she had continued to gain interest in the landscape while working at a local nursery and maintaining residential gardens.

She has worked with Dan and the team for many years, providing administrative support with a focus on the financial aspects of the firm, as well as assisting with day-to-day business operations. While her husband Dan was establishing his practice, Maureen’s career led her to the Massachusetts Water Resource Authority (MWRA) where she was hired to establish its Central Laboratory, which entailed everything from hiring staff to outfitting the lab. Maureen enjoyed watching DGLA evolve as Dan’s passion for thoughtful design and commitment to meeting client needs became increasingly well known in New England. Subsequently, Maureen’s dedication to the environment and hands-on management skills merged naturally to administering DGLA on a regular basis. Prior to joining DGLA in 2022, Wyatt had always had a love for designing and creating things. Growing up in an artistic household, he honed his skills in hand carving wooden sculptures as a hobby and side job.

Jordan grew up in southern New Hampshire, where she started a small vegetable farm with her family and hosted a farm stand for their community. Between working with the land on her family farm and exploring New England landscapes, she developed a passion and appreciation for the outdoors. At DGLA, Patrick specializes in conveying innovative design ideas through process graphics, illustrative schematic drawings, and detailed construction documentation.

Lulu found that landscape architecture fit her fascination with shape and form but also spoke to her love of nature and creative thinking at multiple scales. Kerran grew up in Eastern Massachusetts, where she spent her childhood experiencing nature with her father. Inspired by his rich passion for gardening and biology, she developed a fascination with plants and outdoor exploration from a young age. Her yearning for exploration brought her to Europe, where she discovered her interest in spatial organization and people’s perception of space in the landscape.

Of course, the inventory itself is just as eye-catching; gorgeous vignettes featuring contemporary furniture by designers like Nendo and Marcio Kogan make the shopping experience truly memorable. Sam Kachmar’s catalog of renovations and new builds is objectively beautiful, but we’re particularly taken with its depth and range. We collaborate with leading architects and interior designers, and rely on the finest builders and craftspeople to help make our designs become a reality. Caroline earned her master’s degree in Landscape Architecture from the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry in 2020 and soon after joined the team at DGLA.

This interest, combined with her curiosity about plants, led her to study landscape architecture. At DGLA, Winfield assists in the production of construction documents and details, digital graphics, and 3D modeling. He blends his diverse background with technical and design knowledge, adding a well-rounded perspective to the team.

The artist and her talented team showcase creativity and originality in each project, using unique textures, patterns, and vibrant colors to enhance bedroom ceilings, bathroom walls, towering fireplaces, and so much more. Patrick Ahearn and his team of experts are architects by trade, but they also consider themselves to be storytellers, all deeply committed to honoring their projects’ historical roots. So should that mean reimagining an original 1960s-era barn with weathered board-and-batten siding (and creating pine-and-iron stalls for the family’s horses) or re-creating the original entrance to a 19th-century cottage in Chatham, the results are sure to be timeless.

Prior to joining DGLA in 2022, Winfield worked for several years as a mechanic in Southwestern Colorado. Furthering his knowledge of the built landscape, Winfield worked for a small contracting firm specializing in custom residential landscapes. He earned his Master of Landscape Architecture from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst in 2022. Caroline grew up in Saratoga Springs, NY where she spent much of her childhood exploring and appreciating the adjacent Adirondack Park. This necessarily shaped her view of the landscape and inspired a passion for horticulture and preservation.

The personalized service staffers happily provide certainly doesn’t hurt either. Camera-ready interiors are within reach when you hire this North Shore firm, which brought rustic renovation goals to life on HGTV’s new series Farmhouse Fixer last year. Sign up for our E-Newsletter and receive articles, trends and tips straight to your inbox. Maureen grew up in coastal New England, spending summers sailing Boston Harbor and Buzzards Bay. Her love of the outdoors inspired study in Environmental Science at UMASS Amherst and she worked as a Marine and Environmental Chemist in California and in Massachusetts for many years. After three years on the west coast, Dan returned to Boston to assume responsibilities as the Lead Designer for the Central Artery Tunnel Project – Central Area.

While in his first year of college at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, Wyatt discovered the field of Landscape Architecture, a perfect melding of his interests in the outdoors and design and went on to earn his Bachelor of Science in Landscape Architecture in 2022. The Innovation and Design Building is home to a diverse mix of companies and entrepreneurs, including architects and engineers, skilled makers and craftspeople, research and development firms, and technology start-ups. Boston Design Center, Reebok, America’s Test Kitchen, Autodesk, EPAM Continuum, Ginkgo Bioworks, Neoscape, Elkus Manfredi Architects and The Boston Beer Company are just some of the tenants at the Innovation and Design Building. The complex is conveniently located along the MBTA Silver Line route, just minutes from South Station, and is flanked by one of the country’s largest working dry docks to the north and by the Black Falcon Cruise Terminal to the south. Professionally, however, perhaps my biggest challenge was that I began BDG during a time when advertising was almost taboo.
